Hey, I thought I had already joined the Chargettes! I'll post my pic from my other computer. This is great! ps I just got my own BODYFLOW class to teach at the Las Vegas Athletic Club. Yeah! Love you Chari
I am a lifelong dancer turned belly dancer. I own a studio in Benicia, Ca called Sirens In Sanity. I am a mother of 2, Erin and Benjamin, grandmother of Joseph and wife of 32 years to Michael.
San Diego Chargers 1969 and 1970 seasons, before they were called "Charger Girls" we were called "Chargettes". And we used full sized pom poms and fuzzy socks and white oxfords...1969 we wore short white pleated skirts, gold short-sleeved sweatshirts with a zipper in the front upper chest with our names on the chest in Charger blue and "Chargers" written in blue on the back. Definitely not the same look as today's girls uniforms. We were really cheerleaders, not just dancers...although we did dance routines, lots of jumps and lead cheers. In 1970 we had one piece A-line dresses in gold with blue lettering, full sized megaphones, which were so cool, gold with "Chargers" written in blue. Blue pom poms and blue fuzzy socks. We did car washes to raise money to pay our way to the Oakland Raiders game. We got to fly home on the same plane that the Chargers were on, that was a total thrill to this 16 year old...yes I lied about my age! John Hadl, Lance Alworth, Dick Post, Walt Sweeny, Sid Gillman- those were the stars! Good ol' days...
YES we need to do this. I have lots of photos. will dig them up. We were San Diego Charger Cheerleaders, Sand Diego Chargerettes, and San Diego Chargettes before the Charger Girls were even born. They are so beautiful, too bad we didn't get the recognition we deserved and the back up and support! Love you Chari!
